Business Objective:
United Nations wanted to complete a first order estimate of its organization-wide GHG emissions to better understand the impact of their operations and to begin calculating the cost of achieving a climate neutral target. For this first inventory exercise, the boundaries include all agencies and staff and associated office space including regional offices and field offices.
Solution:
Clear Carbon Consulting staff inventoried all corporate GHG emissions in a complete, detailed, accurate, and transparent process to create the company’s GHG baseline estimate in a manner that can be easily replicated and updated over the coming years. Clear Carbon Consulting staff created a GHG spreadsheet that tracks and calculates all GHG emissions from electricity purchases, fuel use, refrigeration leakage, fleets, and business travel.
Project Results:

With a project schedule of only two months, more than half of the UN agencies participated in the inventory effort.

Quantified and analyzed over 268,883 metric tons of CO2 equivalent emissions from more than 14 UN agencies.

Created an inventory of sufficient detail and accuracy for estimating the cost of achieving climate neutrality.

Identified data gaps and areas for improving consistency and accuracy of future inventories.
Project Details:

The GHG data collection process and quantification methodologies were designed specific to each direct and indirect emissions source within inventory boundaries to ensure a complete baseline estimate.

Clear Carbon Consulting reviewed GHG data with a thorough and extensive quality assurance process.
